Hey now, stay proud: Destigmatizing depression & PTSD

I’ve loved Flogging Molly for a while now, and was so excited to hear this news from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) via their Twitter account about their partnership to raise awareness of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that I was willing to overlook the fact this isn’t a new song:

Even better than the website NIMH referred to is the one Flogging Molly dedicated to their song-as-new-public-service (PSA)-announcement, www.punchdrunkgrinningsoul.com, which includes background about the song, the band & Vietnam veteran narrators, a brief description of PTSD and a link to NIMH’s PTSD website.

The PSA video is tastefully done to address both PTSD and depression without showing graphic, literal images or including sounds that can trigger flashbacks for those with the disorder. Check it out and also check out Bring Change 2 Mind, another partnership effort to increase awareness of and remove stigma from mental illness.
