Friday Foolery #77: M-m-m-my Persona

During a great lecture I attended yesterday that I’ll blog about sometime next week, I learned about the Personas project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It is a data mining application created specifically to serve as a critique of data mining and your name is the subject of it.

Who do they think I am as a result of their algorithm? It depends, rather dramatically, on which name of mine you use.

For me as Nikki,

bar graph of different colors and identifying attributes
online, sports, education, movies, news, politics, social, medical, art.

For me as Nicole, my legal name:

bar graph of colors with different attributes

online, military, management, medicine, media, education, news, politics, legal, religious, religion.

I’m not all that sure what to make of it, especially where the military management is concerned. Am I taking the concept of a Radical Militant Librarian a bit too far? Then again those types usually aren’t in management, and neither am I.

Who do they think you are? Go find out!

That was interesting – I had big “committees” block as it went through all my MLA stuff. In the end, I understood most of it, except there was one slice labeled “aggression,” which is interesting. Oddly, it didn’t seem to pick up my knitting stuff at all..
